SUNDAY Feature on ART of Architecture -by Gautam Shah

Mary Dawson Elwell (née -Miss Mary Bishop, from first marriage to George Holmes -Mary Dawson Holmes, and then on marriage to British painter Fred Elwell, the British painter, -Mary Dawson Elwell). (1874-1952).

Mary Dawson was a near impressionist painter, of architecture, street scenes, wide scapes and interiors, whereas, her artist husband worked with portraits and scenes of working life. Marry and her husband shared their art styles. She uses low-toned oil colours for her work with total absence of high-lighting outlines or strong shadows. Her impressionism emerges as she escapes detailing. Her interiors are well defined, include and explore the sunlight.
