Bartholomeus Johannes van Hove (1790-1880) was a Dutch landscape painter. His father, Hubertus van Hove, apprenticed him in the craft of gilding and art. He painted mostly cityscapes of Holland and church interiors in a romantic style. Van Hove, besides the city scapes, painted scenery for the stage.

During the 1830’s, he began to teach art at the Hague Academy. Many of his students, became famous names of the 19th C Dutch School.

His early works are characterized by a fine, detailed style with heavy colouration. He emulated painters of early generation, but with time, began to use subdued tones, specifically for rendering the city buildings.
