SUNDAY Feature on ART of Architecture
.
Heinrich Hansen (1821-1890) was a Danish architectural and interior painter. His son, Adolf Heinrich-Hansen, was also an architectural painter, but later turned to animal painting.
Hansen studied at Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen in 1842 with the intention of becoming a decorative painter.
He was the first and a remarkable architectural painter of Denmark. But he distinguished himself as Interior scene painter. He travelled across the western Europe and captured halls, arcades of Palaces and church buildings. Some of the details are so well captured that it has served as examples in history of Architecture and interior design. Many of the details were so meticulous and truthful that these are used for restoration of historical places.
Over the years, he also worked on restoration projects at Rosenborg, Kronborg and Frederiksborg castles. He also designed furniture, silverware and porcelain.
On return, he became a teaching assistant and then a professor for perspective and ornamentation, at the Academy.
This post covers Heinrich Hansen’s Interior drawings. Last Sunday (20FEb2022) post covered the Architectural buildings.
