SUNDAY Feature on ART of Architecture -by Gautam Shah
Casimiro Sainz (1853-1898) was a Spanish painter. He was known for his landscapes and portraits with interior backgrounds.
At the age of 13, he was sent to Madrid to work in a grocery store, but, here took some drawing lessons. He had a tumor in the left hip, and he went to Matamorosa in 1881, to recover. The tumour condition led to the emotional instability, and he became increasingly unable to care for himself. Art dealers used to cheat him on this account.
Casimiro Sainz, between 1875 and 1881 he lived in Madrid, Toledo, Ávila and Segovia. This was a creative period for him. He painted many landscapes en plein aire around the city. He was known for ‘his luminous style, related to French Impressionism’. His Landscapes and other interior scenes are outstandingly sensitive. He, in spite of sickness and small oeuvres, was able to participate in several exhibitions and received good notices from the critics.
He died in Madrid, from an infection of his left leg, at a young age of 44.
