John Terrick Williams (1860-1936) was a British painter, who was a member of the Royal Academy. He instead of joining the family business, decided to pursue a career in art and moved to Europe.
He travelled extensively and his impressionistic, luminous paintings and focussed on coastal landscapes, water fronts and marine subjects. To capture the transient effects of light and reflections, he explored places like Venice, Paris, Sicily, Brittany, St Tropez, Honfleur, Concarneau, Cassis, Nice, Cornwall, Tangiers and St.Ives. Williams painted in oil, pastel and watercolour. He captured the ‘sense of light’, through quick colour sketches on the site.
