SUNDAY Feature on ART of Architecture -by Gautam Shah
.
Alfred Jan Maksymilian Kowalski (1849-1915) was a Polish painter. He, after the studies in Warsaw, Prague, and Dresden, settled down in Munich, in 1876. His style of using contrasting colours was liked by the art dealers and collectors. His works were popular in the German market and USA.
He painted horses in all their manifestations. He depicted folk life in Poland and Galicia, with horse-drawn carriages, sleighs, stables and rest-places. The scenic settings for it were through the snow-covered terrains and water soaked lands. Alfred’s horses were full of dynamism and people in their natural behaviour. He occasionally included architectural forms as part of the scenes and as background. The placement and expression of the architectural forms were amazing.
